PHELPS, NY, June 3, 2004 CobbleSoftTM International Ltd. today announced that
West Virginia University’s Virtual Medical Campus has implemented COIGNTM Enterprise,
CobbleSoft’s global helpdesk and customer service management software. The VMC®
selected COIGN Enterprise as a departmental solution for supporting the training and education
of thousands of firefighters, police officers and emergency medical personnel who are among
the first on the scene of a terrorist attack.
Sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security, the electronic and blended learning methodologies
focus on the training and preparedness knowledge of over 3,000 first responders for effectively
meeting a national need. Through the development of online learning delivery systems for
interactive knowledge management, the VMC aims to establish a national information-delivery
infrastructure. Dealing with training of emergency response, weapons of mass destruction and
preparation of emergency evacuation and protocols, the projects ensure that responders are
better prepared for unexpected disasters.
"Existing software programs are sometimes difficult to implement but COIGN software has made the
implementation process easy, affordable and hassle free," said Alan Butcher, associate director of
the Lane Department of Computer Science & Electrical Engineering at West Virginia University.
"Choosing a solid solution from the many products available can be an arduous task and critical,
leading-edge initiatives such as this demand power, performance and results," said Richard
Stevenson, CEO, CobbleSoft. "As a company, CobbleSoft is committed to ongoing education, and we
are very happy to be supporting the nation’s responders through the VMC and WVU."
COIGN Enterprise, designed to harness the power of the Oracle Database®, is a key
element in managing the project, ensuring that each student is fully supported during training
while tracking issues during each student’s progress. Inherent product flexibility meant that
the VMC was able to easily customize COIGN to accommodate the diverse needs of the program,
including secure access to records through an online system. COIGN’s self-service capabilities
also ensure that students have quick and easy access to information.
"CobbleSoft was very supportive and open to changes," said Butcher. "The company gave us excellent
service and provided a rapid response to our requests. We have found COIGN Enterprise to be very
compatible with our current Oracle database and are very pleased with the product and its
capabilities."
