Community Reaches Out Through CobbleSoft Donation |
PHELPS, NY, March 22, 2004 - CobbleSoft today announced the launch of the
PhelpsNY.com web site. Hosted by new
owners, the Phelps Chamber of Commerce, the site is also the official web site for the
Village and the Town of Phelps, New York State.
CobbleSoft’s proposal to rebuild the defunct web site was accepted by the Chamber in August of 2003,
and later given full support by both the Town and Village Boards. Officially presented by CobbleSoft
to the community as a $20,000 donation, the new owners have acknowledged that the commercial cost
would have been considerably higher, while the value to the community of Phelps is priceless.
For the people, and by the people, PhelpsNY.com embraces the spirit of the Internet to extend the
warmth and vibrance of its community to the world. Succinctly blending the flavors of an area
steeped in history and unique architecture, PhelpsNY.com also portrays a community thriving through
new world entrepreneurs.
"Successfully blending history and tradition with the new and informed, and for such a
diverse audience, has been quite a challenge" said Richard Stevenson, CobbleSoft CEO and
Phelps Chamber Director. "Phelps as a community is rapidly embracing the Internet as a
way of life, but has yet to realize the true potential and power it offers."
The launch of the site is also the catalyst for positioning "PhelpsNY.com" as a
brand name in future marketing campaigns, designed to attract both travelers and new businesses
to the area. Putting the project into perspective, CobbleSoft President and Chamber Director,
Pamela Follett, said, "as residents and successful business owners in Phelps, we recognized
the need for a valid mechanism by which the community could reach out and communicate. With the
expertise that CobbleSoft has, we saw this as a perfect opportunity to give back to the community."
CobbleSoft enlisted help for the project from other Chamber members, including Wendy Presher
(Chamber President), and Bette Collier (Secretary). Collier, the owner of Judd Collier Graphic
Design in Phelps, also viewed this as an opportunity to help and promote Phelps, providing both
graphical and design input to the site.
New content for the site will be driven through community involvement and contributions, including
channels such as photography competitions and life-essays from school children featuring prominent
local people.
